Boat Race in Kerala

There are more players on one squad than in any other sport in the world. It is a strength test that combines strength and flexibility. In Kerala, there are roughly 20 chundan boats, each chundan of which is powered by a rowing team made up of about 90 oarsmen, ten nilayas, four or five rudder controlled oarsmen, and a large number of veppuvalloms and churulan valloms. The Ampalapuzha Temple idol is connected to Vigraha aradhana in the Keralan historic and heritage site of Champakulam during the month of Mithunam(Malayalam era). The second Saturday in August at Lake Punnamada is when the Nehru Trophy, the Olympics or World Cup of water festivals, takes place. The award is a silver cup bearing Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s signature. Because it is a contest of pride and winning the silver cup is also a dream come true, a nation and an individual will do all it takes to succeed in it.

Famous water fairs in Kerala include Paipad, Pallana, Neeretupuram, Mannar, Mavelikara, Kottayam, Kayamkulam, Kallada Karuvata, Kanneti, etc. On November 1, the Jal Mela in Kerala will come to an end with the President’s Trophy ceremony at Ashtamudi Kayal. Private chundan boats are still prevalent nowadays, but the most of them are found in Upper Kuttanad on the banks of Achankovilar river. significant snake boat constructors in Kerala Venu Achari, Sabu Achari, and Umamaheswaran are well-known boat builders. Nayambu, a row made of palm, is used as an oar when rowing. The Kuttanadan people depend heavily on boats, water, and other marine activities. Additionally, it represents religious unity. The Kerala Tourism Department is assisting in keeping this traditional festival. The Champions Boat League, one of the most spectacular sights, is annually witnessed on Kerala’s vast backwaters. The exquisite snake boats (Chundan Vallom), which move through the emerald backwaters with a zealous air, are definitely a visual delight.

History

The Snake Boat Race Is An Annual Event In Kerala That Has A Tradition That Dates Back Hundreds Of Years.

King Devanarayan was a man of great ambition. In the early 14th century, when his kingdom of Chambakasherry declared war on the nearby feudal kingdom of Kayamkulam, he called upon the most experienced carpenter in his realm to construct a war boat. These boats, which are now known as Chundan Vallam, are being constructed using the same methods that date back more than 600 years. Today, these war boats only make an appearance during the harvest season during a race known as the vallam kali, which is a legendary race for snake boats.
